The Huntington Library

As part of the exhibition A Strange and Fearful Interest: Death, Mourning and Memory in the American Civil War commemorating the 150th anniversary of the war, the Huntington Library commissioned special materials to demonstrate and interpret the making of nineteenth century photographs in the field. A series of ambrotypes, as well as a short film In the Usual Manner by Kate Lain, document the procedure.
